Loftia Farming Guide — Hydroponics, Aquaponics, Trellis

How farming works in Loftia, the solarpunk life-sim MMO — hydroponics, aquaponics and trellis farming explained, plus what to expect at Early Access.

Farming is at the heart of Loftia, the cozy solarpunk life-sim MMO. Instead of traditional dirt plots, Loftia leans into sustainable, “new-age” growing methods that fit its eco-minded world in the sky. This guide explains the three confirmed farming techniques and how they work. Full in-game details — crops, yields, and how to unlock each method — will be added once Early Access is live.

Sustainable Farming in Loftia

Loftia’s farming is built around renewable, space-smart techniques rather than sprawling fields — a natural fit for life on floating islands. The three methods confirmed so far are hydroponics, aquaponics, and trellis farming. Here’s what each one actually means.

Hydroponics

Hydroponics is growing plants without soil, with their roots fed by nutrient-rich water instead. In the real world it’s prized for using less water, taking up less space, and often speeding up growth — which makes it a perfect fit for a compact island home. In Loftia, hydroponics is one of the core sustainable farming methods. (Which crops it supports and how it’s unlocked will be confirmed at Early Access.)

Aquaponics

Aquaponics takes hydroponics a step further by combining it with raising fish. The fish provide natural nutrients for the plants, and the plants help keep the water clean for the fish — a self-sustaining loop with very little waste. It’s about as on-theme as it gets for Loftia’s solarpunk world, and it’s confirmed as one of the game’s farming systems. (In-game specifics are TBA.)

Trellis Farming

Trellis farming grows climbing and vining plants upward along vertical supports instead of spreading them across the ground. It saves space, improves airflow and light, and adds height and structure to a garden — again, ideal when your farm sits on a floating island. Loftia includes trellis farming as one of its confirmed growing methods.

How Farming Fits Into Loftia

Farming doesn’t stand alone. Your tools in Loftia are powered by renewable energy generated from the sun, wind, and rain, and what you grow feeds into the wider loop of crafting, decorating, and contributing to community projects with other players. As a shared-world MMO, you’ll be farming your own island while neighbors do the same around you.

What’s Coming at Early Access

Once Loftia enters Early Access in Fall 2026, we’ll expand this guide with the details that aren’t public yet: the full crop list, growth times and yields, how to unlock each farming method, and the best setups for a small island.

In the meantime, our island layout planner is already live — use it to sketch where your growing beds, water and renewable-energy tiles go before you commit to a layout in-game.
